Lauren Haynes – Nursery Class Teacher
Nikki Thomas – Nursery Nurse
Welcome back, we hope you have had a wonderful Easter break.
Firstly, thank you to those parents who attended parents’ afternoon, to receive the most up-to-date information on their child’s learning. This meeting does have a positive impact on your child’s learning in school!
We are looking forward to an exciting Summer Term in the Nursery class! This letter outlines some of the learning planned for the Summer Term and some suggestions of how you can help at home.
In phonics we are continuing to listen to sounds and talk about the sounds that we hear in the environment.
We will be singing nursery rhymes, using musical instruments and exploring rhyming words (cat, mat, rat, bike, like, kite etc.)
In order to continue to develop our awareness of alliteration (same letter at the beginning of each word – Fred’s friends fried Fritos for Friday’s food.)
We will be oral segmenting and blending. B – A – TH B– OO – K
We will be playing games based on the initial sounds in words as well as learning how to talk like a robot (sounding out our words).
How you can help:
- Reading a range of books including some rhyming books
- When reading rhyming books, encourage your child to join in with rhyming words as you read
- Sing songs and nursery rhymes
In Maths we are continuing to learn about numbers. This will include learning how to represent numbers using our fingers and marks on paper, match quantity to number and singing number songs. We will also be learning about capacity, length and weight. We will continue to develop our understanding of shapes.
How you can help:
- Talk to your child about different numbers in the environment such as the numbers on buses or number plates
- Count with your child and help them to touch an object as they say a number
- Sing number songs with your child
- Find shapes in the environment
- Explore capacity (what containers hold) and length at home
- Talk to your child about the shapes of different items at home and in the environment – how many sides, faces, corners etc-
In English we will be reading a range of books and we will base our learning on these books. We will be reading a range of traditional tales and books that have a space theme. After this, we will choose books based on what the children are interested in. If your child is particularly interested in something, please let us know!
There will be four Crescent Literacy workshops in Summer Term. This is a chance for you to come into class and support your child’s learning with different fun activities. More information about Crescent Literacy workshops will be sent out to you at a later date.
Parents will be invited in to class to look at their child’s learning journey and join in with their child’s learning and play. We will send out allocated slots at a later date.
Please check Tapestry regularly as observations are updated all the time. Over the term you can add your own pictures of your child via your smart phone or tablet. Please see a member of staff if you need any help with logging in or getting a profile.
Now it is Summer, just a reminder to put names onto the labels of your child’s uniform, as jumpers are often removed in the playground when they are hot!
Thank you for your support and we look forward to an exciting learning journey this summer!
